IPL HAIR REDUCTION

Say goodbye to your unwanted hair!

Do you suffer from in growing hairs, shaving rash, excessive hair growth?

Free yourself from the daily chores of hair removal! There is an alternative to hair removal sessions which involve painfully ripping the hair from the skin. Now, thanks to the latest IPL technology, your hair removal sessions will be more gentle and produce longer lasting results.

Just imagine, no more growing hair for waxing! No more ingrowing hairs or dark shadows! After 4 body treatments you may even forget to shave!

The principle upon which light based treatments work (the Selective Heating through the Absorption of Light) is known as: PHOTO–THERMO–LYSIS (Light – Heat – Destroy).

Why do I need a course of treatment if the hair follicle will be destroyed?

As with all cells the hair follicle has a growth cycle. In order for the hair to be permanently denatured it has to be treated in its growing stage. As the hair bulb cannot be seen below the skin its state of growth cannot be identified at the time of treatment. At any one time only 30% of the body's hair will be in the growth stage. A course of treatments is therefore needed to achieve a good reduction of hair growth.

Does it hurt?

No. IPL hair reduction doesn't 'hurt' but there will be a feeling of slight heating in the area treated (sometimes described as a 'flick' of heat). Some areas can be more sensitive than others. A chiller is used for all treatments which reduces the heat sensation ensuring minimal discomfort. Some women may experience exaggerated skin sensitivity prior to and during their monthly period.

How often will I need to come for treatment?

This is dependent on the stage of hair growth and treatment area. The guidelines are approximately 4 - 6 weeks for face and 6-8 weeks for body.

What happens after a treatment?

Directly after treatment there may be some redness and a small amount of swelling. This usually calms down within 24 hours. The area can feel quite warm and 'tingly' directly following a treatment. We strongly recommend the following for at least 24 hours post treatment:

No hot baths or showers – tepid only
No heat treatments i.e. saunas and steam rooms
No deodorant, perfumes or scented body lotions
No swimming or Jacuzzi's
No steam ironing or cooking over boiling saucepans

How should I prepare for treatment?

Do not use products containing retinol or AHA's before or during your IPL treatment
Do not use bleach or hair removal cream for at least 1 week prior to treatment or any perfumed/aromatherapy products for 24-48 hours before treatment
Avoid swimming immediately before & after treatment
Avoid wearing tight clothing when attending your treatment
Keep the area clean and dry
Physical sunblock should be worn at all times on areas visible to sunlight
Avoid sun exposure and sun beds for 4 weeks before treatment
Avoid use of irritants or stimulant solutions or creams on the area
Do not use any other form of hair removal except shaving during your treatment and shave no earlier than 48 hours after treatment
Should the treatment area appear red or tender then apply recommended aftercare gel or apply ice or cooling gel packs which can improve comfort and reduce redness and swelling
Do not use fake tanning products for two weeks before & after treatment
